moving to a different city always seems to mark a new time in my life musically. boston has become my new home after living in hartford, ct and new york city before that. the music on this release is a representation of me settling into a new environment. i have slowly realized that the music i make is mostly therapy for myself. it is what i believe that i need to hear at the time in order to be at peace with whatever situation i am in. in that regard, the music is very much who i am.

featuring an eerie spoken word vocal by thomas gandey based on a tarot game, the instrumental is a true dancefloor anthem with hypnotizing arpeggiated analog bassline reminiscing of italo disco, tech drums and synth arrangement. everything flows together into a devilish spoken word breakdown where pads take over and hell breaks loose.

the caky music sounds like lusty melodic elements on a suspenseful beaty framework, or how they call it: like lechery . side b is literally packed with miro pajic! the remix from the berlin-based lazerslut, who also releases on magda s items & things, uses almost full capacity of the vinyl record length and strikes with a 12-minutes journey of dirty grooves. on a percussive pajic-like setting, he finds his unique way of lechery with an apparently neverending buildup which turns into some epic moments.

the *obsidian falls* ep from seattles josef gaard sits at a very fascinating but incredibly complimentary space between traditional techno tendencies and freeform ambient composition and experimentation. each track seamlessly references each other providing a straightforward sense of cohesion while maintaining a constant and aggressively progressive motion. the ep will guide and gently coerce the listener into experiencing a somewhat altered perspective on sonic and musical expression. without much notice the listener will effortlessly travel from point a to point c without realizing they have ever touched on point b.

the swedish label dirty hands strikes back with double force. this motor driven techno 12 is hard to hide from. labelboss per hammar says when patrick gave me this track, i played it in every set for the 3 months. when he later told me that he hasnt found a home for it, we said in choir ‘lets do a dirty hands release out of it!. and after that moment, all my previous plans for the label was deleted. with patricks ruthless original combined with per hammars jungle sounding edit on the flip, this release isnt anything but a key into the producer duos minds.

this release marks a new beginning for berkovi, better known for his tougher music man, force inc, djax and harthouse releases over recent years. after haunting the bside of one release too many, a reboot into a more beloved and emotional techno template is obviously reaping dividends. according to the man himself, this is no trend following phenomenon: i ve always produced deeper music, more often than not even years ago was always pushed to b sides of eps or remixes but now it s the main thing i want to do, techno with soul. after releasing a lot of more melodic material on labels such as eevonext and an album for trapez a few years ago i want to return to solely concentrating on this style for my music and live sets

the lobster theremin white label debuts yet another young producer in the shape of the leeds-based hedge maze. with a tightly crafted, hazy, blissed-out house sound these three tracks have been culled from the muggy undergrowth of his northern harddrive. untitled is a chattering roller, smothered with a throbbing, wavy bassline and ending in a fuzzy, chord-soaked crescendo, while the slow, drudging rhythms of dysania give a heavy nod to some of lowtec s down tempo numbers for the label. the release is rounded out with the glistening, black-sun shower of (slow). all delay-drenched crystal stabs and oscillating soundscapes. a floating, ethereal trip into the afterlife.

repress 2015 , up first is a rework from hamburgs dj koze, a man with no need for introduction. koze lays into the albums dub track >kawaba<, featuring the voice of japans singer tomomi ukumori. deeply pitched vocals and kozes very own groove give this remix a very special appeal. on the flip, spanish dj and producer affkt, resident of valencias famous barraca club, delivers a peak time tech-house remix of >macleta< which is already causing some storms amongst selected dj sets. more >studio 10< remixes will be released across the next months, watch out!

raam is back with ep 2 where he delivers the massive hidden, a classic dub-driven techno banger. with its stabby synths and 4/4 rhythm its devastating on the dance floor. on the flip hidden gets a remix treatment from the talented baba stiltz (studio barnhus). baba buries the original into a deeper, sonic gritty journey. the ep ends with pallas which is a slow and raw house track with a moody atmosphere.

as we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around the world, this is certainly the case for disc over music as they bring us their first release of 2015. high off the back of exquisite releases in 2014 from luca lozano & mr. ho and nicson, disc over’s first installment of 2015 comes from label head tim green - a three track ep bursting with two classic tg productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with a remix from the talented german born producer borrowed identity. the ep kicks off with the aptly named ‘scar’ - a track which when heard, truly makes it mark. it sets the tone for the rest of the ep with it’s prominent bassline and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. track two, ‘we thought’ is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from ‘scar’. it begins with a simple trademark tg bassline and is allied with light and free singular keys. the listener is then joined by vocals which along with the previous elements take you on a real trip. borrowed identity speeds things up right away with his remix of ‘we thought’. the track is morphed into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. managing to keep the identity of tim’s original the track becomes something completely different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip

yahshu is seeking something he has never heard before, bringing influences into his work from a huge spectrum. created using a combination of live strings, samples and synths, the three tracks on somebody elses dream invite the listener to witness a conversation of sound, as if one sound was asking a question and another answering it. what that conversation is, well let the listener decide. the ep was originally written 10 years ago but has since been developed and refined, finally coming to life through rysunku. yahshu is also the founder of rysunku. somebody elses dream is the first release on the label. rysunku releases innovative sound work in very limited numbered vinyl editions. somebody elses dream artwork by artist connie prantera and design by renowned art collec- tive tomato

lee webster s soul reply ep kicks of the year for iutsan with two contrasting, yet seemingly connected tracks. on the chocho side you ll find soul replied - a low slung love song with moodymann-esque sampling and swung-out drums, dipping out occasionally as the female vocal comes in like a lullaby. in contrast on the culo side, you ll find devils avocado - an ibiza terrace style jam that builds from the cutting synth line into a crescendo that finally drops into a total dc10 weapon. an strong start to the year for barcelona based i used to sleep at night.

the 7th release on bond is the second release in petter bs series called *roots*. the label bond is the brainchild of swedish techno dj and producer petter b. the concept of the label is music by djs for djs. the label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the dj, rather than the producer, to be creative. it is based on that special bond which is created every time a dj combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

damn! did somebody upset carlo coz that boy has been throwing down some vicious balls-to-wall beats across his recent releases... and we love it! he got nasty with shaded s gender bender and kicked some serious ass on his latest for carl cox s intec. whilst carlo s latest outings may be fierce, our toronto brother has lost none of the trademark funk that permeates all of his work. the magic ingredient that keeps our hips on the move. carlo returns to mood with deebug, the rampant techno tick that burrows into your brain with its rapid, pincer-like drums and thumping kick. on the flip its fellow ear-bug, no turning back, flows with an almost laid-back and effortless groove. a perfect pair from mr. lio.

first up here is kenloto, a chunky bit of bass driven house with crisp perc. it builds to a nice tense peak with lots of loose, jumbled textures and will make for a fine bit of peak time listening. the other original is whack, which is another tough house cut with firm bass, old school new jersey snare patterns and rolling drums that are rich, warm and rubbery. miguel lobo s remix is a more spritely thing with lithe chords, colourful synths and and a pent up energy that just never stops giving. closing out the fantastic package is paul c & paulo martini who remix kenloto into a trippy affair with ghoulish voices, hard hitting drums and lots of dark wave energy that will carry you late into the night.

the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.

as the popularity of footwork has continued to soar, the range of sounds within the genre has expanded. from the angular, minimal beats of rp boo to the widely admired sound of sadly departed dj rashad, the genre has lovingly seeped into hearts and feet worldwide whilst continuing to innovate. until now most of the focus has been on the male dj/producers, but that is about to change. gary based producer jlin, who some of you might remember for her track *erotic heat* (bangs and works vol.2 – planet mu 2011), or from her moment in the mainstream light providing music for fashion designer rick owens f/w 14 paris runway show, is stepping further into the light with a stunning eleven track debut album *dark energy* showcasing her unique and bold new sound.

strategy aka paul dickow is back on idle hands for an lp following last years *return from the stars* 12 inch. *seeds of paradise* finds strategy boldly firing experimental electronics and dub back into outer space. like his work for zam zam, kranky and his own community library label, this latest outing from the portland-based producer nestles deftly between roots influence and sci-fi leanings. the result is a glistening 40 minutes of sonic exploration, never simplistic but never obtuse, which will sit happily on the turntables of sofa loungers and adventurous djs alike.

strictly rhythm continues its revitalised run of release with i love you from newcomer obas nenor, with remixes coming from andres and luke solomon. i love you intoxicates from its very first beat, an idiosyncratic house cut that wears its disco and soul influences very much on its sleeve. driven by poignant strings and a heartfelt vocal, it breathes nostalgic life into any room in which it is played. the andres remix beefs up the bottom end, with cosmic synths and a wandering bassline transforming the cut from poignant to powerful. solomons body edit further takes the track into dancefloor territory, with sharp percussion and an urgent groove making the track fully suitable for peaktime club play
